When my father was 16 years old, he built his first patio cover for a retired Army warrant officer who turned out to be his mentor and lifelong friend. He was a very skilled man who wholeheartedly wanted to pass his skills onto my father. He showed my dad the art of restoring antique furniture and then how to do general home repairs San Antonio style, such as simple carpentry repairs along with major construction projects, like patio covers, room additions , siding etc. He passed on a very strong work ethic to my father.
